Jacquie Ray is a contemporary erotica filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California. After a successful career in photography including a sold out solo exhibition, Ray began directing and filming her own erotica films in 2018. In the two years since it was started, Ray’s members-only erotica site High Creatives has garnered over thousands of subscribers and continues to grow. Ray’s works have been featured in film festivals internationally, as well as utilized for college lectures. Ray’s work is prolific and her films are diverse and powerful. Often utilizing food in her films, Ray explores the relationship between intimacy, desire, indulgence, and nourishment. As a woman who was taught to hate her body, Ray’s mission in film is to subvert the ideals of mainstream erotica by saturating her work with color, queerness, kink, and loads of snacks. The result is beautiful, unapologetic depravity that encourages others to accept their sexual desires without the oppression of cultural traditions, gender, shame, and trauma. Based on the artists own experiences, dreams, and fantasies, Ray’s films become a mesmerizing medley of surreal beauty and filthy degeneracy; but while alluring and salacious, they are ultimately a tool through which the viewer can investigate and understand their own sexuality.
